Volunteers
What does volunteering at Birthright Kingston involve?
Providing love, compassion, emotional support and practical assistance to women and girls is always the first priority of Birthright volunteers. After completing a training program, volunteers are assigned a regular shift at the Birthright Office. This is usually two and a half hours a week. Volunteers handle a variety of phone calls, especially those from girls and women who are distressed by their pregnancy.
A new volunteer works with a seasoned volunteer until he or she feels comfortable putting their training into practice and taking a shift at the Birthright Office.
Some of the duties of a Birthright volunteer include providing:
- Free pregnancy test
- A listening ear
- Maintaining a professional office environment
- Connecting with other organizations as well as community partners (KFL&A), St. Vincent de Paul, KCHC etc.
- Attending training sessions to continue to learn how best to serve our clients.
- Preparing newsletters and other mailings
